VANAMA community of Konedobu suburb hosted trial matches over the weekend. The community’s sport coordinator Fred Sarea yesterday said they hosted trial matches for three sporting codes like touch rugby, volleyball (men and women) and netball. All matches will be played at Vanama community oval. “We will have 14 teams in each of the respective codes heading into trial matches and this is a pre-Christmas holiday recreational activity for youths,” said Sarea. He said they are privileged to have the support from local MP for Moresby South Justin Tkatchenko and his office to fund their competitions. They hosted a successful independence sports activity in September and now they aim to keep youths busy especially when the focus is on the upcoming APEC Leaders week. Proper season will start this Saturday until December 15 and then followed by the finals. Sarea also made a special appeal to business houses within the vicinity of Konedobu to show their support and encourage the youths to engage in meaningful activities in the community.
